The Vikos gorge and its world record
Located at the heart of Vikos-Aoos National Park, the Vikos Gorge is a true natural wonder and one of the most significant attractions of Zagorochoria. And it's not difficult to see why! With a depth of over 900 meters and a width ranging from 100 to 1,100 meters, it has earned a well-deserved spot in the Guinness Book of World Records as the deepest canyon in proportion to its width.

With a length of over 10 kilometers, the gorge is intersected by a thundering torrent that ultimately feeds into the crystal-clear springs of the Voidomatis river.

The Vikos gorge is a rich habitat for countless life forms.
The absence of human activity, along with the crystalline waters, has established the Vikos gorge as a veritable haven for numerous rare and endangered species, such as deer, golden eagles and bears.
The diverse flora of the area includes over 1,700 species and subspecies of plants, some of them being unique and most of them being rare.

The picturesque Zagorochoria villages
Nestled behind the Mitsikeli mountain, lie the 46 traditional villages of Zagororochoria, enhancing the region's natural, rugged beauty and captivating visitors with their impressive architecture. These are villages with a pure montane atmosphere, rich history, ancient churches, and cobblestone streets. This harmonious blend of nature and culture extends to Zagorochoria’s recent recognition. The location is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its distinct traditional stone architecture, showcasing the shared Byzantine and Ottoman heritage in the Balkans.
Around the Vikos gorge visitors will find, in addition to the namesake village, the beautiful villages of Monodentri, Megalo and Mikro (Big and Small) Papigo, Aristi and Vitsa.
