"Running" for World Autism Awareness Day

ΠΑΓΚ. ΗΜ. ΑΥΤΙΣΜΟΥ

World Autism Awareness Day, celebrated on April 2nd, is always a reminder for us to run, to learn, and to raise awareness.

This year, we once again honored World Autism Awareness Day by actively participating in two significant running events – the 3rd Race for Autism (March 31st) and Run4Autism (April 7th).

As a proud sponsor, we support these two sporting events that serve an important purpose: raising awareness and promoting inclusion for individuals on the autism spectrum. Our goal is to contribute to their smooth integration into society and to encourage equal opportunities for participation in sports.

The 3rd Race for Autism took place in the Municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, organized by the nonprofit organization Race for Autism Gr. The event saw many participants and an enthusiastic crowd cheering on the runners with heartfelt applause. Race for Autism Gr was founded to inform and raise awareness about autism spectrum disorders and the needs of individuals and their families. Its mission is to support neurodivergent individuals, ensure their equal participation in sporting activities across the country, and foster their social inclusion. This meaningful cause inspires us to run and amplify the message of World Autism Awareness Day.

A few days later, on Sunday, April 7th, the 8th Papagou – Holargos City Road Race “Run for Autism” followed. This event, organized in collaboration with the Holargos Basketball Club, aimed to support and stand by children with autism. The 8th edition of “Run for Autism” once again welcomed numerous runners who participated in the 5km & 10km races. However, the most inspiring moment was the 1km run, completed by individuals on the autism spectrum, setting an example of strength, passion, and dedication.

All proceeds from the event were allocated to cover the operational needs of the “Champs” basketball program of Holargos BC, which includes children on the autism spectrum.

At the closing of the event, attendees followed the heartfelt tradition of leaving their mark in solidarity, by imprinting their handprints on a large canvas painted in the colors of autism awareness.

We are already looking forward to next April – we will be there!
